Water Products Model 77 Countertop and Double
Countertop Filters
This is the world's best and simplest
guarantee. All parts of the Model 77 Countertop Filter
are guaranteed for life. Any part that fails will be replaced
without cost for parts, labor, or shipping by PURE
WATER PRODUCTS. The single exclusion from this
guarantee is the replaceable filter cartridge, an expendable
part which should be changed by the owner. In most cases,
annual replacement is recommended.
To make a warranty claim, just
call or email and tell us which part is broken. We'll send a
replacment.
Unless an alternate cartridge is specified, your Model 77 filter
is equipped originally with a MatriKX KX1 nominal 1-micron
extruded carbon block cartridge. This is an exceptionally
effective all-around cartridge for a general-service
countertop water filter. The KX1 has almost unbelievable
chlorine-removal capacity. It is a great all-around general
chemical remover, a superb taste and odor improver, and it has a
large capacity for chloroform removal. Chloroform, one of the
chlorination-created chemicals classed as Trihalomethanes (THMs)
and
regulated as a cancer causer by the EPA, is present in virtually
all
chlorinated tap water. It is also recognized in the industry as
a "surrogate" for many other contaminants. Experience
has taught that a filter that removes chloroform will also be
effective against a wide range of other chemical contaminants.
The KX1 has a chloroform capacity of about 750
gallons--slightly over a year for most users.
Other frequently used Model 77
cartridges are the MatriKX PB-1, a top quality carbon block
filter that is also rated for lead and cyst reduction, and the
Di-Tech MAX, a granular cartridge that contains high grade
filter carbon, KDF (a metallic medium specific for chlorine and
lead removal), and an ion exchange resin. Most double filters
use a combination of the three cartridges listed.

It is usually recommended that the cartridge in your countertop
filter be changed at least once a year. A Model 77 cartridge
will usually still be removing chlorine and improving the taste
and odor of your water well after a year, but like all carbon
filters, it will start "leaking" certain contaminants
into your water before you notice a change in taste.
Important Note: If you
purchased your Model 77 filter from Pure
Water Products, or if you return the warranty
registration card enclosed with units purchased from other
retailers, Pure Water Products will
send you an annual cartridge reminder notice. It's just a
reminder that it's time to replace the cartridge to which you
can respond if you choose (or which you can ignore if you
choose).
