Frequently
Asked Questions about Countertop Water Filters
Are countertop filters as
effective as under-sink filters?
Yes. Although the delivery system
is different, countertops use the same filter elements as
under-sink systems.
Why do countertops cost
less than under-sink filters?
Mainly because countertop
accessories are less expensive than the ledge faucet and inlet
valve used with under-sink units. You also save on installation cost.
How hard is it to install a
countertop?
Not hard at all. Usually it's
just a matter of screwing off the aerator from the kitchen
faucet and screwing the diverter valve of the countertop filter
on in its place. It's a little harder if the diverter valve
doesn't fit the faucet, but we provide two adapters with the
unit that will adapt almost all faucets to the filter.
Using the adapters is also very simple. You can see complete
instructions in the Installation section
on this site.
What are some of the
advantages and disadvantages of countertop filters?
The main advantages are ease of
installation, ease of relocation (people who move a lot love
them), and simplicity of design. Although they are essentially
trouble-free, they're very easy to repair. The upkeep is mainly
a simple cartridge change--very easy to do yourself.
As for disadvantages, the most
frequent complaint is that they take up some countertop space. If
your countertop is crowded, they crowd things up
more.
How long will a countertop
filter last?
You should be able to use it the
rest of your life if you take care of it. There's nothing
that wears out that isn't easy to replace.
Why do you offer a lifetime
guarantee on Model 77 countertops?
Well, we'd like to say it's because we're
altruistic, but it really has more to do with sound business
practices. We caught on that most countertop water filters
end up in the garage, then the trash, because a small part
breaks and the owner isn't able to find a replacement. We
decided that if we can keep Model 77 units going, people will
keep buying cartridges for them. We love selling cartridges.
